Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position with the possibility of taking over the role of a group leader at the Stem Cell Laboratory of the General Thoracic Surgery, Dept. of Clinical Research, University of Bern.

Our group mainly investigates endogeneous lung stem cells in the normal and malignant settings. In normal lung, we have isolated resident lung mesenchymal stem cells and currently assessing their utility as a therapeutic tool for the regeneration of lung diseases, in vitro and in vivo. In the malignant setting, we are investigating a rare population of drug-resistant cancer stem cells and the mechanisms of reversing chemoresistance in adenocarcinoma and mesothelioma. Investigations focused on translational research is most welcome as we have access to clinical samples.

Description The main responsibilities of the post holder are to undertake innovative, high-quality research, generate publications, procure grants and coordinate research programmes with national and European collaborators.
Requirements Applicants must have a PhD with a broad background in stem cell biology, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. Experimental expertise and scientific knowledge gained from previous positions are necessary to provide support and organize laboratory staff including post-graduate students to resolve scientific operational problems.
