| A successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in sociology or a related field as well as demonstrated scholarly distinction appropriate for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant or junior professor. Candidates with a SNF Förderprofessur (or a similar Assistant Professor fellowship) or willing to submit applications for tenure track fellowships will be particularly welcome. Background in mixed methods approaches to social determinants of health, social justice and equity is required, and experience in collaboration with communities on public health initiatives is desirable. Applied research areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, social determinants of infectious diseases (e.g. malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis), chronic non-communicable diseases (e.g. cancer, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and mental health problems) and zoonotic diseases (e.g. bovine tuberculosis, brucellosis and rabies). The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research agenda. • Commitment to reducing inequities in health and improving and protecting the public’s health. • Track record of funded research and scholarly achievement. • Successful experience in fundraising and resource development. • Leadership and management abilities. • Ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships that foster inter- and transdisciplinary research and scholarship. • Dedication to recruiting, developing and supervising diverse and talented PhD students. • Commitment to the educational goals of a diverse and highly qualified student body. • Experience and interest in developing international research partnerships. • Ability to represent the institute in the regional, national and international public health communities.
