For half a century, AO has been at the forefront of trauma and musculoskeletal surgery, driven by a joint commitment to innovation and excellence in patient care.

The AO Foundation is a medically guided nonprofit organization led by an international group of surgeons specialized in the treatment of trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. It offers affiliated surgeons and operating room personnel (ORP) global networking opportunities and knowledge services.

AO surgeons, ORP, and staff are dedicated to achieving more effective patient care worldwide by fostering and expanding an interdisciplinary network of currently more than 10,000 healthcare professionals in research, development, clinical investigation, and education.

Integrating for excellence

Today, AO specializes in general trauma, spine, craniomaxillofacial, and veterinary surgery. Always medically driven, AO is active in research and development to create scientifically sound concepts and methods, as well as in clinical investigation to support evidence-based decision making. AO also offers educational opportunities for surgeons and ORP to disseminate its knowledge into the medical community and ensure the correct application of AO principles and techniques.
