The Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs 6,000 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. Open Science is a priority not only for the senior management of EPFL, but also for the research community. We are going through a shift in the whole approach of collecting, analysing, and storing research data that gives way to a lot of questions requiring new synergies and innovative approaches.

The EPFL 2021-2024 Strategic Plan puts emphasis on promoting a culture of open science both through bottom-up and top-down objectives. The School of Engineering would like to facilitate this transition and transform the EPFL strategic vision into objectives and concrete actions within the school.

The role of an Open Science coordinator would to make Open Science a standard and simple practice in the scientific process for the school of Engineering.

Main duties and responsibilities include :

  • Provide scientific and technical support to the research work done within the School of Engineering and contribute to the preparation and dissemination of our scientific outputs.
  • Lead the development of a faculty-wide Open Science platform that focuses on transparency, integrity and efficiency and that makes our research outcomes more FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable).
  • Propose, evaluate and (co-)implement various Open Science research tools and solutions that support the daily needs of researchers of the School of Engineering.
  • Coordination of different projects around open science within the School of Engineering.
  • Create guidelines and (e-learning) educational material that support the transition towards Open Science.
  • Further develop the policy, infrastructure and culture of data open science for the School of Engineering.
  • Support research evaluation assessments.
  • Propose Open Science objectives and metrics for the school.
  • Organize and propose regular workshops for the research community STI.

Your profile :

  • Experience in Academic Research, scientific report writing, reviewing and editing.
  • Experience in programing.
  • Familiar with open science : principles, requirements, training, infrastructure, issues, communications.
  • Project management skills.
  • Good communications and social skills.
  • Development background and interest, good knowledge of content management / web site management.
  • English and French mandatory.
  • Experience in setting up open research platforms, and/or virtual research environments, definitively a plus.
