Inaugural meeting of the DSCC group of experts Data Science Competence Center henceforth advised by an external group of experts
Not long ago the Data Science Competence Center (DSCC) came into being. Now a group of experts will support the DSCC in its work. The group will hold its first meeting on 15 September and will contribute to the external steering of the DSCC through its expertise in various specialist fields by providing advice.
The members of the DSCC group of experts are leading professionals with different perspectives on the field of data science. Prof. Lothar Thiele from the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) and Prof. Jacques de Werra from the Digital Law Center at the University of Geneva represent academia, whereas Prof. Hervé Bourlard from the Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) is an expert in corporate governance in the field of data science and artificial intelligence.
Erich Herzog, Head of Competition & Regulatory Affairs at the business umbrella organisation, economiesuisse, will support the group in regulatory and competition law matters. Stefan Metzger from digitalswitzerland will represent Switzerland’s approach to digital innovation. Lastly, Dr Anna Mätzener, Managing Director of AlgorithmWatch Schweiz, deals with the aspect of civil society.
DSCC’s positioning in Switzerland and worldwide
The DSCC is a service provider within the federal administration and as such, offers data science services and expertise to the entire Swiss public sector and administration (Confederation, cantons and communes). The DSCC builds on the existing synergies with academic partners, in close collaboration with the public research and development sector, to provide state-of-the-art data science expertise. Compliance with the ethical principles of the DSCC must always be guaranteed with regard to its tasks.
The DSCC will receive external advice from the group of experts who will provide independent approval of its thrust of direction. The group of experts will focus on the strategic positioning of the DSCC as well as on its role in Switzerland and worldwide. In this context, strategic partnerships with units within and outside the federal administration can be discussed or examined by the expert group.
