TransCure - From Transport Physiology to Identification of Therapeutic Targets
The National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR), TransCure - From Transport Physiology to Identification of Therapeutic Targets, seeks to integrate the disciplines of physiology, structural biology and chemistry and to develop new therapeutic strategies for treating the most important diseases. Transport proteins and ion channels play a key role in all physiological processes in the human body. Malfunctions in these proteins may contribute to the occurrence of diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis and neuro-degeneration, and play a role in heart disease and cancers. The NCCR TransCure researchers aim to achieve a more profound understanding of the structures and mechanisms of these proteins. By broadening their knowledge of how transport proteins and channels work, they hope to develop new medicines.
