On May 4, 2024, five teams from German-speaking countries will compete with their Mars rovers at the 2nd Rover Träff of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW.
Organized by students of the FHNW Rover Team of the FHNW School of Engineering, this event offers a unique platform to train for the European Rover Challenge, which will take place in Poland in autumn. Student teams from universities in German-speaking countries will test their specially constructed Mars rovers, which will navigate over rough terrain, carry out scientific experiments and perform technical maintenance tasks.
Teams from Germany and Switzerland
The FHNW Rover Team, Star Dresden (TU Dresden), FRoST (FH Frankfurt), ERIG (TU Braunschweig) and the second Swiss team, EPFL Xplore (EPFL Lausanne), will be competing at the event.
The FHNW Rover Team consists of students from the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science degree programs and is formed anew each year. This is the third time they have developed a Mars Rover for the renowned international competition within two semesters. The team has already excelled in its first two participations: At the premiere, the students achieved sixth place, and last year they even achieved an outstanding 2nd place.
Opening with National Council President Eric Nussbaumer
The program will kick off on 4 May 2024 with National Council President Eric Nussbaumer. Then the competition begins: the rovers have to navigate over various obstacles, collect soil samples and solve maintenance tasks.
In addition to the competition, the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science degree programs will also be presenting themselves. Associations, companies and other organizations also have the opportunity to present their projects and ideas. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the exciting world of robotics, technology and innovation.
