320 events held throughout the world with 180 Swiss partner organisations, networking for start-ups, expert discussions on topics such as drones and environmental technologies - all this and much more to promote education, research and innovation in Switzerland. ’Best of swissnex’ is the motto of the swissnex Network’s 2018 annual report, published on its website at www.annualreport.swissnex.org.

The review of 2018 takes a look at the activities of the five swissnex locations and 22 science counselors at Swiss embassies around the globe, who pursue the shared objective of supporting the outreach and engagement of Swiss institutions and individuals operating in the field of education, research and innovation.

The annual report describes how swissnex held a total of 320 events with 180 Swiss partner organisations in 2018. Among these was swissnex Boston’s series of events entitled Aerial Futures, aimed at raising the profile of Swiss research into drone technologies and their application on the east coast of the United States. The science office in Seoul launched its very first Swiss-Korean Innovation Week to encourage networking and exploration of new areas of cooperation. And in a joint undertaking with the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, swissnex India identified environmental technologies as a focus topic and organised a Cleantech Week at which Swiss start-ups, researchers and policy makers could gain greater insight into the Subcontinent’s potential in this field.

swissnex is the Swiss global network connecting the dots in education, research, and innovation. Its mission is to support the outreach and active engagement of its partners in the international exchange of knowledge, ideas and talent. The five swissnex locations and their outposts are established in the world’s most innovative hubs. Together with around twenty Science Counselors based in Swiss Embassies, they contribute to strengthen Switzerland’s profile as a world-leading innovation hotspot. The swissnex Network is an initiative of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation and is part of the Confederation’s network abroad managed by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The swissnex activities are based on a collaborative approach, relying on public and private partnerships and funding.
