The ZHAW School of Applied Linguistics and the Institute of Argumentation, Linguistics and Semiotics (IALS) at USI are delighted to announce the call for the Spring School 2024 "Questioning Large Language Models and Understanding (Multimodal) Argumentation in the Age of AI and Social Media" funded by the Doctoral Programme in Applied Linguistics: Managing Languages, Arguments, and Narratives in the Datafied Society ÖLAND), that will be held from May 6th to May 8th 2024, at the scenic Hotel Restaurant Seehof in Küssnacht am Rigi.
The aim of the Spring School is to stimulate discussion on the evolving role of language models, the facets of multimodal argumentation and the impact of AI and social media on human communication. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with leading researchers in the field: computational linguist Smaranda Muresan (Columbia University), and multimodal discourse analyst Janina Wildfeuer (University of Groningen).
The Spring School will award 1.5 ECTS credits to participants who attend the entire program.
Prospective attendees are invited to submit a brief motivational letter and a description of their current research by April 4th, 2024. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out in the following week.
