Pascal Mäser, Head of the Parasite Chemotherapy Unit at Swiss TPH, has been appointed Full Professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Basel, effective 1 February 2023. Mäser has been an Associate Professor of Infection Biology at the University of Basel since 2014.
Pascal Mäser leads the Parasite Chemotherapy Unit at the Department of Medical Parasitology and Infection Biology (MPI) at Swiss TPH. Mäser-s research focuses on drug discovery for trypanosomatid parasites and malaria, modes of drug action and mechanisms of drug resistance. His unit entails a drug discovery platform that has been instrumental in the development of several new drug candidates, including fexinidazole for human African trypanosomiasis and artefenomel for malaria. Since 2014, Mäser has been an Associate Professor of Infection Biology at the University of Basel.

Mäser graduated from the University of Basel in 1998 with a PhD in microbiology on the mechanisms of drug resistance in African trypanosomes. As a postdoctoral researcher at UC San Diego, he studied ion transporters in plants. In 2002, he assumed the role of Assistant Professor of Molecular Parasitology and Bioinformatics at the University of Bern, before joining Swiss TPH and the University of Basel in 2009 as successor to Reto Brun.
