Postdoc: Effect of grazing on soil carbon storage
80%-100% / 8046 Zürich-Affoltern ZH

good food, healthy environment
The CarboGrass project aims to assess the potential of improved grassland management for soil C, N cycling, and soil health across the globe. The project will create standardised, high-quality datasets on grassland soil C/N cycling as well as management- and environmentally-induced soil C stock changes. These data allow benchmarking of biogeochemical process models and provide an important basis for estimation of greenhouse gas emissions. The CarboGrass consortium consists of partners in South America (Argentina and Colombia), Europe (Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, and Switzerland), Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) as well as Oceania (New Zealand) and is funded under an international call by EJP Soil. Within CarboGrass, Agroscope will investigate soil C and N stocks (experimentally and in-field) at several mountain grassland sites with varying intensity of management in Switzerland.

Agroscope is the Swiss federal centre of excellence for research in the agriculture and food sector. Its researchers carry out their work at a number of sites in Switzerland. Headquartered in Bern-Liebefeld (as of 2025: Posieux FR), Agroscope is attached to the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER.

The research group “Integrated Agroecology", located in Reckenholz near Zurich, coordinates and combines the expertise of various groups for the calculation of a wide range of agri-environmental indicators.

Furthermore, we have large expertise in the collection and management of farm application data.
