On June 4 and 5, we welcomed more than 100 high-school students for a two-day event featuring biomedical research education and hands-on activities, including building brain-inspired circuits.
The "Days of Genetic Research" ("Tage der Genforschung" in German) was initiated in Switzerland in 1998 to provide the public with insights into biomedical research, particularly gene technology.
Although the official initiative has ended, the FMI continues to organize its own "Days of Genetic Research" annually. This year, we hosted more than 100 high-school students from Basel and nearby cities for an exciting two-day event. The students had the opportunity to learn more about biomedical research, explore future career opportunities and participate in fun hands-on activities such as building brain-inspired circuits.
Members of the Zenke lab helped the young visitors and their teachers to create simple spiking neural networks using palm-sized electronic "neurons". You can read more about this activity in the Zenke’s lab blog and check out some pictures of the event below:
