President Ueli Maurer and Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan will take part in the first Sino-Swiss high-level platform in Zurich on Monday, 21 January. The business event, which forms part of the innovative strategic partnership between the two countries, will focus on the theme: ’Digitalisation Drives Innovation’. Mr Maurer and Mr Wang will also hold official talks.
The agenda of the official talks includes issues of global governance and world trade, as well as the development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In particular, the meeting is intended to further deepen the very good bilateral relations between Switzerland and China. With regard to bilateral cooperation, the parties will discuss the further development of the free trade agreement.
Switzerland will be represented at the meeting by four state secretaries: Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO), Jörg Gasser (State Secretariat for International Financial Matters SIF), Pascale Baeriswyl (State Secretary at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA) and Martina Hirayama (State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI).
The high-level platform is being run by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) and the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) together with the Swiss business community. Representatives from a variety of sectors and educational institutions have been invited to attend.
