Head of Translational Science, Research and Early Development Oncology

The Head of Translational Science in Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) Oncology acts as the leads a team of experts who act as representatives for the Translational Medicine Group and provides leadership and input on strategy and clinical development aspects for the portfolio of internal projects in pre-clinical development and external projects evaluated by external innovation processes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Member of the Oncology Translational Medicine-Leadership Team:

- Generate a clinical vision for the programs

- Ensure consistency of early clinical plans (content, presentation, scientific approaches) with the overall Translational Medicine and Oncology Development and Therapeutic Area (DTA) strategy

- Ensure preclinical plans are fully aligned with the early clinical plans

  • Provides leadership and scientific expertise globally for the therapeutic area and participates in new initiatives to sustain long term Roche leadership in the Oncology DTA
  • Acts as core member and reviewer in the development review committee, DTA-Portfolio Committee, and Oncology Research Review Committee and represents the Translational Science group on relevant internal decision and governance bodies
  • Provides review and input to internal and external significant scientific/preclinical presentations and documents
  • Contribute to overall Translational Medicine strategy, vision and project prioritization
  • Contribute to external innovation and partnering strategy by defining the needs

  • PhD or MD, preferred, with at least 6-8 years in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent level of experience with demonstrated record of clinical development of early compounds in a results-oriented manner
  • Has demonstrated strong leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of the scientific data (discovery and clinical) and landscape of early Oncology Development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic, visionary skills
  • Strong influence management skills; able to navigate a complex organization effectively and efficiently and impact decisions positively in a matrix environment
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and adapt to change
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work across cultures
