Description

The successful candidate will be hosted by the Institute of Environmental Engineering, ETH Zürich and will also work at Empa (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research). Position starting from May 2018 or upon agreement. In the Air Quality and Particle Technology group applications are invited for a

The research will be fabrication of nano- and micro-devices for air quality applications. Modern sensors and control systems are needed to effectively mitigate the impacts of emerging airborne pollutants. Micro/nano fabrication technologies provide opportunities for fast detection and accurate identification of multi-component pollutants and highly automated active removal mechanisms. The tasks include development of accurate, reliable and small on-line sensors for airborne molecular contaminants and particles and development of smart adaptive air cleaning systems. The candidate will work on fabrication of micro/nano devices using MEMS methods and cutting edge 3D printing technologies. The available equipment includes the Nanoscribe 3D laser lithography system which enables the fabrication of minimum lateral feature sizes of less than 200 nm. The candidate is expected to further develop the research in the laboratory and supervise students.

The suitable candidates have a doctoral degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, material science or related fields with excellent academic records. Interested candidates should have strong research backgrounds and solid independent research ability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
