Student Internship in setting up chemogenetics-MRI methods in Neuroscience (as soon as possible, for 9 months)

Switzerland, Basel-Town, Basel

We are looking for a student who will set up chemogenetics-MRI methods of circuits relevant for neuropsychiatric disorders. The internship will build on established methods and cutting edge tools to setup novel assays to investigate interaction between cell populations with the underlying molecular framework. Successful candidates will apply cutting edge circuit methodologies and gain insight into developing these assays for the drug discovery context.

You will be part of the Neurosymptomatic Domain Section of the Neuroscience department located in Basel. The team investigates brain circuits responsible for schizophrenia. The student will work at the interface of chemogenetics technology and pharmaco-MRI.

During the internship you will:

  • master stereotactic methods for precise infusion of viral vectors into the brain
  • conduct complex chemogenetics-MRI and behavioral tasks
  • analyze, discuss and present experimental findings at lab meetings
  • support in-vivo activities such as developing assays for drug discovery

You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.

Your career interests are in Biology/ Neurobiology/Neuroscience, you are motivated to learn new techniques to explore the brain circuitry underlying neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders.

Moreover you are/have:

  • enrolled in a Master program at a university
  • practical research experience in in-vivo experiments and animal handling (FELASA B/LTK1 equivalent before start of internship)
  • a good command of English
  • able to work in a team setting and in a multicultural environment

Information about application documents and starting date:

The preferred start date is March 2018 but is negotiable depending upon availability. Applications need to include a CV, evidence of animal handling certification (FELASA B/ LTK1 or equivalent) and a motivation letter.
