Research Assistant / Hilfsassistent/-in 20%

The research group of Political Economics of Energy Policy (Prof. Aya Kachi) in the Faculty of Business and Economics invites applications for a Research Assistant (Hilfsassistent/-in) position with a 20% appointment. We are looking for a motivated student who already holds a bachelor’s degree at the time of application.

Start date: June/July 2018 (or by agreement)
Duration of the contact: Depends on the starting date. Generally, for one semester and potentially extendable.

Your position
Why do we need your assistance? Our research group - the prof and several PhD candidates - is currently running multiple research projects and in the process of launching new ones. They are primarily related to energy policy and the energy-related behaviour of real estate investors.

Regardless of the topic, we often feel that we can make far better progress on our research with basic support from a motivated student like you on the following tasks:

  • Conducting and summarizing basic information collection on our new research topic
  • Organization of the related literature
  • Initial broad summary of the literature
  • Coding, raw data pre-processing
  • Formatting our writing products (with our instructions)
  • Inputting (typing) questions into a survey software
  • Undertaking administrative tasks (E.g. document preparation with specific instructions)

Your profile
How could you assist us? The assistantship will require:

  • Good writing and communication skills in English
  • Good writing and communication skills in German
  • Motivation to learn new research tools
  • Willingness to work in a team
The following skills are not strict prerequisite, but it would be a plus, if you are already familiar with some of them.
  • Mendeley (Literature organization application)
  • LaTeX
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT)
  • Qualtrics (Survey software)
  • R and Stata
We are looking for a candidate:
  • within the University of Basel,
  • who already holds a bachelor’s degree,
  • preferably with a background in Economics, and other Quantitative Social Sciences.
