Postdoctoral position in targeting cell invasion in metastatic cancers

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral research scientist , who is passionate about oncology and determined to move an ambitious translational cancer research project forward.

The Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Research lab is part of the Children’s Research Center of the University Children’s Hospital Zürich, Switzerland. The lab is embedded in the highly active and competitive basic and translational research environment of the University of Zürich and the ETH Zürich. The University Children’s Hospital Zürich is the largest Children’s Hospital in Switzerland and a major pediatric treatment and research center in Europe. The lab has inhouse access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure and to the core facilities of the University of Zürich and the ETH Zürich. We offer

The candidate will join the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Research team, where he/she will interact with a team of postdocs, Ph.D. and Master’s students working on the discovery of novel molecular mechanisms underlying cancer cell dissemination. He/she will
  • Identify and validate molecular targets for anti-dissemination therapy
  • Explore efficacies of existing and novel drugs as anti-dissemination agents using 3D tumor cell models and organotypic brain slice cultures
  • Run medium throughput drug screening trials
  • Maintain biobank and database of existing and novel tumor models
  • Actively contribute to the development of existing and new 3D cell models

For this position, you need to bring the following qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in cancer biology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry or related field
  • Proven track record in cancer research is mandatory
  • Proven expertise in mammalian cell culture.
  • Experience in stem and / or primary cell culture is desired (not mandatory)
  • Expertise in confocal microscopy
  • Experience in working with in vivo models (not mandatory)
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
