The School of Life Sciences and Facility Management is located on an attractive campus on the left shore of the Lake of Zurich in Wädenswil. To further strengthen our team at the Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology, working on the development of new materials, we are seeking a

Research Assistant / Post-doc for Polymer Nanoparticle Synthesis (100 %)

to start immediately or upon agreement for a 12 month contract.


In this position you will have the opportunity to greatly expand your competences and apply your creativity by working on the following research areas:
  • Synthesis of polymeric nano-/microparticles utilizing emulsion polymerization, phase separation, condensation, etc.
  • Post functionalization of polymeric nanoparticles via grafting, ATRP, ion-printing and attachment of molecules, such as ligands for potential use in the separation of cations and ion chromatography
  • Characterization of polymeric nanoparticles in terms of surface, size as well as their purification and separation
  • Strong involvement in different fields such as conductive polymers, electronic devices, surfactants synthesis, surface and interfacial science
  • Possibility to publish in high impact factor journals


The ideal candidate has completed or will complete a PhD degree in the field of Chemistry, has accumulated a deep understanding of polymeric nanoparticle synthesis and masters several methods for polymer nanoparticle synthesis and surface functionalization techniques. The candidate should also have a strong motivation for writing publications and willingness to work with industrial partners and in new research fields. Good knowledge of both English and German is an advantage.
