UI Designer for Cooling Singapore (100%)

The Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) was established as a joint initiative between ETH Zurich - the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF), as part of the NRF’s CREATE campus. The centre serves as an intellectual hub for research, scholarship, entrepreneurship, postgraduate and postdoctoral training. It is home to a community of over 100 PhD, postdoctoral and Professorial researchers working on diverse themes related to sustainable cities and resilient infrastructure systems. In the course of their work, researchers actively collaborate with universities, research institutes, industry, and government agencies with the aim of offering practical solutions.
SEC is currently leading the Cooling Singapore project. The Cooling Singapore Project is an interdisciplinary project carried out between ETH Zurich, TU Munich, MIT and NUS. The project is dedicated to reducing the urban heat island and improving the outdoor thermal comfort in Singapore. The project’s outcomes have the potential to influence the wellbeing of citizens of Singapore. The project aims to develop a decision support system (DSS) for the web-based Virtual Singapore platform to help government agencies and planning authorities assess optimal strategies for cooling Singapore, in a holistic, systematic and interactive way.
Starting in August 2019 or under agreement, we are looking for a talented individual to join our interdisciplinary team based at the Singapore ETH-Centre in Singapore. Your key responsibilities will be to: 1. Contributing to the visual development of the DSS. 2. Gathering and evaluating user requirements, in collaboration with product managers and engineers. 3. Illustrating design ideas using storyboards, process flows and/or sitemaps. 4. Designing graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgets. 5. Develop mock-ups and prototypes focused on big data related sources. 6. Create graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables). 7. Assist Cooling Singapore team members in using the DSS for their needs. 8. Communicate with Virtual Singapore platform administrators. Salary: We offer a competitive salary that commensurate with skills and expertise. Duration: 1 year contract, full-time position.
You should have at least a Bachelor or Master degree in UX/UI design, or equivalent relevant background. Knowledge of web technologies and their development is a plus. Self-motivated, independent learner and detail-oriented person. Fluency in English and good writing skills. Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment and to learn new things is essential.
