Research Assistant working on Digital Health for the Aging World

The Health Ethics and Policy Lab is a multidisciplinary research group established in 2017 at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST) at ETH Zurich (head: Prof. Effy Vayena ). Our current work focuses on the ethical, legal, societal and policy implications of artificial intelligence, precision medicine, biotechnology and digital health.

Project background

We are looking for an outstanding research assistant to work with Dr. Marcello Ienca on a research project examining the clinical and ethical challenges related to digitalization in the aging world. In particular, the project will explore the applicability of mHealth, artificial intelligence, neurotechnology and other digital health solutions to improve the health and quality of life of older people. The research project is funded by Innosuisse and the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMW).

Job description

As a member of the Health Ethics and Policy Lab, the selected candidate will contribute to ongoing research activities, especially qualitative and quantitative data analysis, literature reviews and meta-analysis. Moreover, he/she will collaborate in the publication of research results. The selected candidate is also expected to help in the dissemination of research activities by collaborating to the organization of academic events. The duration of the position is 6 months with the possibility of extension and the preferred starting date is November 15, 2019.

Your profile

The position is suited to candidates who have obtained or are currently pursuing a master’s degree in medicine, biology, computer science, engineering, psychology, philosophy or related fields. We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in the ethical, legal and social implications of medical technology; experience with social science methods (e.g. literature review, qualitative research, meta-analysis); ability to work independently and to develop respectful working relations with colleagues. Candidates who wish to write a master’s thesis in this area of research are welcome to apply.

Candidates should be fluent in English and German.
