Postdoctoral Scholar position in Environmental Antibiotic Resistance (Microbial Ecology / Metagenomics)

Are healthy, diverse ecosystems a barrier against the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria in the environment?

The successful candidate will study how the (microbial) biodiversity of the environment, e.g. of biofilms in rivers and soils, affect the invasibility by antibiotic resistant bacteria from human sources such as wastewater or manure. The project will involve both field studies and experimental work. You will be able to implement your own research ideas within the context of the project. At Eawag, you will join the Microbial Ecology Group but you will also collaborate with other researchers at Eawag and with the other research groups in the consortium, which includes teams from Germany, France, Ireland, Austria, Poland and Romania. The project is funded through BiodivERsA and the Swiss National Science Foundation.

We are seeking outstanding and highly motivated candidates with demonstrated experience applicable to research on microbial ecology and antimicrobial resistance in environmental systems or biofilms. Candidates should have completed a PhD degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or a related field. Experience with metagenomics and associated data analysis techniques and computational tools as well as experience with field sampling and experimental work are desirable.
