Computational Science Zurich (CSZ) , a joint initiative of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich is welcoming applications for PhD candidates. The available positions are offered by the 45 members of CSZ and entail highly interdisciplinary research at the interface of computing and all areas of sciences and engineering. The positions involve research in the broad field of Computational Science at ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. The PhD candidates develop and implement computational methods to solve challenging scientific and engineering problems in areas ranging from cosmology, earth sciences and aerodynamics, to social, financial and life sciences. Areas of research in computing include: numerical methods, high performance computing, machine learning, big data analytics, imaging and quantum computing. The ideal candidate has a Master's degree in any area of engineering and the natural sciences as well as mathematics and computer science. A solid background in mathematics and computing fundamentals is highly desirable. We seek highly motivated candidates that enjoy working in an interdisciplinary environment to solve challenging problems. A very good command of English (Level C2) is required and a willingness to learn German is preferred. A competitive salary will be provided, which is well matched to the cost of living in Zurich.
