Your mission

As a PhD student in the section "Sample handling and sensing", you are part of a team specialized in microfluidics, fluid handling and sensing with a focus on Life Science Technologies. Your main activity will be performed within the European project ORGANTRANS (?url=https%3A%2F%2Forgantrans.eu%2F&module=jobs&id=51939" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://organtrans.eu/). ORGANTRANS aims to develop a disruptive solution that enables the 3D printing of tissue-engineered constructs from standardized organoids. Within this framework, you are responsible to develop, test and implement novel automation approaches for sorting organoids. Beyond your main project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to applied research and development projects with our academic and industrial partners. This PhD position is in collaboration with the Bio Engineering Laboratory (Prof. Andreas Hierlemann) at the Department Biosystems of ETHZ in Basel. The main place of work will be CSEM in Alpnach, with regular presence at ETHZ in Basel.

Your profile

• Superior level of education (MSc)
• Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and principles across multiple disciplines
• Out of the box thinking and high level of motivation
• Proactive and excellent team player, ability to collaborate with various internal partners across the organization
• Experience of projects at the intersection of microfluidics and organoid handling is preferred
• Experience in the area of laboratory automation is a plus
• Ability to realize your ideas in practice and deliver results
• Natural curiosity and ability/interest to deal with multidisciplinary activities
• Fluency in English, Fluency in German is a plus
