The group of Prof Eap Chin B. is seeking a candidate for one Postdoctoral (Premier Assistant) position at the Center for Psychiatric Neurosciences, Department of Psychiatry, Lausanne University Hospital and University of Lausanne, Switzerland. The Unit of Pharmacogenetics and Clinical Pychopharmacology (UPPC) Group (?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chuv.ch%2Fcnp%2Fuppc&module=jobs&id=52699" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.chuv.ch/cnp/uppc) is involved both in clinical and research activities. An ongoing research on the clinical, genetic and environmental determinants of metabolic syndrome in psychiatry has allowed to include about 3000 psychiatric patients treated with psychotropic drugs at risk for weight gain and metabolic disorders. The purpose of our project is to further investigate the multiple causes underlying drug-induced metabolic alterations. The project will be supervised by Prof Eap Chin B. for the clinical and pharmacological aspects, and by Prof Zoltán Kutalik (Statistical Genetics Group, CHUV / University of Lausanne) for statistical genetics and GWAS analysis. The ideal candidate should have a strong experience with genome-wide associations studies and programming languages and software (R, plink, GCTA, etc.). Deeper understanding of statistics/mathematics and programming is a plus. A solid research track record (including prior experience publishing in international peer-reviewed journal) and a high degree of motivation are indispensable.
Contract length: 1 year (renewable up to 3 years)
Project topics: 1) GWAS analysis for metabolic traits (in a psychiatric cohort including about 3000 patients) B) Use of polygenic scores with clinical data to predict metabolic traits in a replication cohort
The finer details of the research project can be defined together with Prof. Eap. Most of his/her time will be dedicated to research. The University of Lausanne has a strong training record and a minor contribution to teaching is thus expected, including the possibility of supervising master’s students. The job description specifies:
90% Personal research
10% Participation in master’s and/or PhD candidate supervision
We are seeking to recruit a candidate with a PhD in life science / bioinformatics / mathematics / statistics / computer science with prior research activity in GWAS analysis. Prior experience in publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals is required. Candidates need to have demonstrated knowledge of programming skills - ideally in the areas of statistical genetics, bioinformatics or computational biology. A keen interest in the genetics of human health is required. The applicants should be able to work in a team. A requirement from the funder (Swiss National Science Foundation) is that postdocs can only be employed up to 5 years after obtaining their PhD (6 in case of maternity leave).
Desirable interpersonal skills
Ability to plan research goals several weeks ahead and execute them fairly independently respecting major project milestones
Good cooperative skills with other researchers and team members
Good communication skills (presenting /discussing research results within group, at seminars/conferences)

The Center for Psychiatric Neurosciences brings together researchers and clinicians, whose research activities are focused on several psychiatric disorders, aiming at basic neurobiological, neurochemical or cognitive processes with a view to developing early diagnosis as well as pharmacological and behavioral therapies. Research activities are also focused on the genetically-based interindividual variability in the response to pharmacological treatments, with the aim to offer an individualized drug treatment (?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chuv.ch%2Ffr%2Fpsychiatrie%2Fdp-home%2Frecherche%2Fcentres-et-unites-de-recherche%2Fcentre-de-neurosciences-psychiatriques-cnp&module=jobs&id=52699" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.chuv.ch/fr/psychiatrie/dp-home/recherche/centres-et-unites-de-recherche/centre-de-neurosciences-psychiatriques-cnp) French is the common language in the Lausanne region but research activities, interactions, group meetings and seminars can be conducted in English.
