About this opportunity : Help drive adoption of advanced machine learning in our Technology and Digital Integration (TDI) function, Crop Protection R&D

As part of Syngenta's digital transformation journey, there is an increasing emphasis on data-driven approaches in R&D. From exploiting new digital technologies in the lab to extracting maximum value from existing knowledge, data- and model-driven decision making is changing the way we do science and develop new solutions for sustainable food production.

We are looking for a data scientist or machine learning engineer with a solid technical foundation, a sense of curiosity and interest in applying diverse AI technologies to a broad range of real-world R&D challenges.

Reporting into the Digital Science & Technology team, you will be responsible for building a strategic vision for deployment of advanced machine learning capabilities across the R&D organization and driving its adoption for maximum impact. As a technical expert, you will collaborate with a diverse set of predictive modellers, data scientists and R&D domain experts from many different scientific disciplines to understand problems and use your judgment to find the best solutions.

With your background in machine learning, you should be familiar with major ML approaches used to solve analytics and decision problems in different domains, such as machine vision, generative algorithms or agent-based policy optimization. You have enough understanding of ML algorithms to tweak models, and from experience, you understand practical aspects of deploying different AI technologies, such as data needs, tooling, and scalability. Rather than needing to be an expert in a specific field, you will work with diverse scientists and IT delivery teams to understand which features to exploit, and identify approaches that can be used across different parts of the organization. A background in life sciences is a plus, but not essential.

Ideally, y ou are a hands-on person who enjoys working with a diverse set of people and bringing them together, is motivated to continuously learn and expand your horizon, and likes prototyping and creatively applying new methods.

Good communication skills, strategic thinking and the ability to work flexibly in cross-functional teams are essential.
