We are recruiting a Bioinformatics Analyst for the Clinical Bioinformatics Unit in Basel, to commence immediately or by mutual agreement.

The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies enables discovery and translational research for personalized health. It has two units, the Theragnostics Discovery Unit which enables high-throughput lab automation, and the Clinical Bioinformatics Unit, where we apply expertise in bioinformatics and statistics to the advancement of biomedical research and clinical applications.

Job description

The primary focus of your position will be

  • the project-tailored analyses of diverse high-throughput data sets, covering a broad spectrum of data types from whole-exome and panel-based variant calling up until single-cell sequencing analysis.


Furthermore, you will be responsible for

  • the development and testing of analysis pipelines
  • extension of existing workflows.


The projects are typically in a biomedical research or clinical diagnostics setting, and their scope can be very wide, ranging from basic NGS analyses to clinical reporting. In that respect, NEXUS collaborates with various academic institutions and hospitals.

Your profile

We are looking for a motivated and diligent colleague who likes to exchange with others and who is interested in clinical science and translational research.

The position requires

  • MSc in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field
  • experience in biomedical, genomics, or integrative research projects involving molecular data sets
  • familiarity with high-throughput genomics/transcriptomics data
  • solid programming skills in Python or R
  • excellent communication skills in English.


Advantageous are

  • experience in statistics or software development
  • familiarity with HPC usage and Bash
  • experience with version control or workflow management systems
  • knowledge of German is a plus.
