La Faculté de médecine de l’Université de Genève bénéficie d’une dynamique multiculturelle enrichissante à laquelle elle contribue par son rayonnement dans le cadre des mandats qu’elle s’est donnés : l’enseignement, la recherche et son partenariat avec les Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG).

Afin de renforcer son équipe, le laboratoire du Professeur Doron Merkler (faisant partie du Département de pathologie et immunologie de l’Université de Genève et affilié au Département de pathologie clinique des Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève, Suisse) recherche un-e Post-doctorant-e, spécialisé-e en bioinformatique (avec doctorat en bioinformatique et expérience en biologie computationnelle, biostatistiques, data science, informatique biomédicale ou domaine connexe).

Le domaine de recherche du laboratoire, situé au sein du Centre Médical Universitaire (CMU), est axé sur la caractérisation des réponses immunitaires des maladies infectieuses et autoimmunes du système nerveux central. Dans le cadre du projet en question, le/la post-doctorant-e sera en charge d’effectuer des analyses bioinformatiques pour des projets portant sur les maladies neuro-inflammatoires humaines et les systèmes de modèles correspondants.

Titre et compétences exigés

Le/la candidat-e doit être titulaire d’un doctorat en bioinformatique et bénéficier de solides compétences dans l’analyse bioinformatique, notamment:

• Application de biostatistiques modernes et de méthodes d’apprentissage automatiques en debit de données moléculaires. Analyse, intégration et visualisation de différents types de données omiques, incluant des données génomiques, transcriptomiques et protéomiques.
  


• Contextualisation des résultats des expériences omiques, y compris la corrélation avec les phénotypes cellulaires, la génération et la comparaison de signatures moléculaires, les analyses au niveau des voies et des réseaux.
  


• Bonnes compétences de communication, visant à optimiser le travail et l’interaction avec les biologistes, clinicien-nes et data scientists.
  


• Excellentes connaissances des méthodes de calcul en vue de l’analyse, de l’intégration et de l’interprétation de multiples types de données biologiques à haut débit issues du séquençage et des technologies basées sur des réseaux (sc and sn RNAseq, ATAC seq, Chip Seq etc.).
  


• Expérience avérée de l’application de méthodes d’apprentissage automatique supervisées et non supervisées aux données biomédicales.
  


• Excellentes compétences dans l’analyse de données, la visualisation de données et la programmation statistique en R/Bioconducteur.
  


• Une bonne compréhension de la biologie et de l’immunologie sera considérée comme un atout.
  


• Bonnes connaissances de la ligne de commande Linux/Unix et des environnements informatiques haute performance.
  

Après une période de formation aux méthodes utilisées par le laboratoire, le/la post-doctorant-e sera intégré-e dans l’équipe et devra jouer un rôle de premier plan dans le projet de recherche ambitieux auquel il/elle sera affecté-e. Il est attendu à ce qu’il/elle exerce son activité tout en collaborant efficacement avec l’équipe et qu’il/elle démontre ses compétences dans la réalisation d’analyses bioinformatiques en collaboration avec ses collègues du laboratoire. Le/la post-doctorant-e devra également être en mesure de communiquer de façon optimale avec les divers intervenants, tant de vive voix que par écrit, afin de pouvoir présenter les résultats obtenus à la communauté scientifique.

Job description

In order to strengthen the team of Professor Doron Merkler’s laboratory (part of the Department of Pathology and Immunology of the University of Geneva and affiliated to the Division of Clinical Pathology of the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland) is looking for a Post-doctoral employee, specialized in Bioinformatics (PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, data science, biomedical informatics or a related field) The research area of the laboratory, located within the University Medical Center (CMU), is focused on the characterization of immune responses in infectious and autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system. In the context of this project, the candidate will be in charge of bioinformatics analyses in the context of projects that concern human neuroinflammatory diseases and corresponding model systems.

Skills / profile required:

The candidate must have a strong competence in bioinformatics analysis and possess the following skills:

• Application of modern biostatistics and machine learning methods to high-throughput molecular data; analysis, integration and visualization of different types of omics data, including genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics
  


• Contextualization of results from omics experiments, including correlation with cellular phenotypes, generation and comparison of molecular signatures, pathway- and network- level analyses
  


• Good communication skills to work and interact with biologists, clinicians and data scientists
  


• Excellent knowledge of computational methods for the analysis, integration and interpretation of multiple types of high-throughput biological data from sequencing and array-based technologies (sc and sn RNAseq, ATAC seq, Chip Seq etc.)
  


• Demonstrated experience with the application of supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods to biomedical data
  


• Excellent skills in data analysis, data visualization and statistical programming in R/Bioconductor
  


• Familiarity with Linux/Unix command line and high-performance computing environments
  


• Sound understanding of biology and immunology will be considered as a plus
  

After a period of training in the methods used by the laboratory, the post-doctoral employee will be integrated into the team and will be expected to play a leading role in the ambitious research project to which he/she will be assigned. He/she will be expected to carry out his/her activity while collaborating effectively with the team and will have to demonstrate skills in performing bioinformatic analysis in collaboration with colleagues within the laboratory. It is also expected that the candidate will be able to communicate optimally with the various stakeholders, both orally and in writing, in order to be able to present the results obtained to the scientific community.
