Student Assistant (HiWi) as Software Engineer for the Bombyx tool

Bombyx is a software tool for Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper, developed by the Chair of Sustainable Construction. The purpose of Bombyx is to provide an easy parametric LCA tool for application in the early design stages in the Swiss context. The tool is used for teaching in the course of “Design-integrated life cycle assessment” provided by the Chair in the Fall semester.


Job description


We are looking for a new team member to join us in the further development of Bombyx and improve the teaching of early design life cycle assessment for architectural and engineering students. The job will include Back-End software engineering with C# and Python and software connection with the Hive tool created by the Chair of Architecture and Building Systems for integrated building energy systems design in teaching. The job would also include work with the database and bug fixing.


Your profile


You are an ETH student in a study program with a computational focus (e.g., computer science) and enjoy working in an inter-disciplinary and multi-cultural team with building engineers and architects on carbon reduction and sustainability topics. Good knowledge and experience in C# and .NET are essential. An ongoing immatriculation as ETH student is a must. Additional skills desirable are:

  • Python and IronPython
  • Continuous integration
  • Git and collaborative development
  • Rhino and Grasshopper SDK
  • Experience in any CAD program


We offer


The contracts are offered for one year with an option for extensions. The position will be affiliated with ETH Zurich. We offer a hybrid workplace model.
