The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. The Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) team at PSI is responsible for the development and operation of three MX beamlines and a crystallization facility at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) and for serial crystallography at both large research infrastructures SLS and SwissFEL. The MX team is a multi-disciplinary group of around twenty-five people from diverse backgrounds in natural, computer, and engineering sciences. The MX Data group delivers software solutions for MX applications and development, including data management, data acquisition, processing, analysis and archiving. Group Leader for the Data Group in Macromolecular Crystallography

Description

  • Lead the development of data-driven macromolecular crystallography (MX) at all three MX beamlines of the SLS / SLS 2.0, and serial crystallography at SwissFEL
  • Team leadership in all aspects, including science, staff, and budget responsibility
  • Actively collaborate with beamline scientists, engineers and other expert, groups to deliver upgrades, new techniques and commission new instruments and methods at the beamlines

Requirements

You will be qualified to PhD level in natural science or related field, with experience in the Software Development Lifecycle, using a modern high-level language (including Python), and with an understanding of good software design principles and design for usability. You will have good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, with a personal interest or experience in working at the boundary between computing and science. You are fluent in English (spoken and written). Working knowledge of German would be advantageous.
