Driven by that spirit, the company recently convened “Innovating Together” in Tel Aviv, a three-day conference with Israeli innovators and research scientists to exchange insights into ways advanced agriculture can address the global food crisis and climate change. Syngenta Group plans to convene similar gatherings at tech and innovation hubs around the world. In Tel Aviv, in partnership with Israel’s Start-Up Nation Central — a non-profit group that connects Israeli innovators with business, government and NGO leaders from around the world — Syngenta Group and its Israel-based crop-protection business ADAMA hosted more than 30 Israeli start-ups and seven leading research institutes. The meeting showcased a broad range of promising agricultural innovations including irrigation, genetics and breeding, biostimulants, and the role of digital technology and robotics in cultivation, crop monitoring and harvesting. “Our decision to host this event in Israel stems from the country’s ability to sustain and thrive with limited natural resources,’’ said Chen Lichtenstein, CFO of Syngenta Group. He cited Israel’s “thought leadership and entrepreneurial spirit, which has transformed Israel into a dynamic agricultural innovation hub.” Panels and presentations were led by Syngenta Group’s leaders from Crop Protection, Seeds, Biologicals, Digital and Sustainability, as well as leaders of ADAMA and Zeraim Gedera, a leading Israeli vegetable seeds company that is part of Syngenta Seeds. While in Tel Aviv Syngenta Group met with Chemi Peres, a tech entrepreneur and venture capitalist. He is the son of the late Israeli President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres and the executive chairman of the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation. Chemi Peres discussed Israel’s modern tradition of innovations in areas that include technology, medicine and water sustainability. In a networking format that some participants likened to “speed dating,” executives from nearly three-dozen Israeli start-ups had the opportunity to discuss their companies. Ignacio Dominguez, CEO of ADAMA emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges that face the world’s farming industry in its mission to feed the world. “We believe that by working together, across the Syngenta Group family,’’ Dominguez said, “we can further help to transform the future of agriculture and mitigate the impacts of climate change.” Teaser Collaboration and innovation are at the heart of Syngenta Group’s approach to global agriculture. My Garden: The grand finale Teaser Stories Content Type Blog Publish date 7/15/2022 Summary The My Garden project started by our Syngenta Group Ambassador comes to its grand finale, with a group of friends enjoying Aleksander’s fresh produce. Over the past few months our Syngenta Group Ambassador and novice gardener Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has been tending his vegetable and herb garden with the aim of harvesting his produce to cook for friends. Basil, carrots, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cucumber, radish, salad … he has grown a wide range of nutritious produce with a little help from Syngenta experts to plant and care for it correctly. A small group of his friends gathered around the table at his home in Innsbruck to enjoy the taste of veggies and herbs fresh from the soil. Aleksander had made a rich and creamy pesto sauce from his own basil, using tips from his fans in his social media community. The verdict was: delicious! But what else was on the guests’ plates, alongside the fragrant pesto? What was their favorite dish? Which veggies did they find the tastiest? Luckily, Aleksander and his friends made a short video of their evening, and are happy to invite you to watch it and join in their celebration. Aleksander’s My Garden journey is over for this season, and he will now be sticking to a strict training schedule and a nutritious meal plan to reach his peak performance for his next big sports challenge in Beijing early next year.

Summary

By Syngenta Group News Service May 2022 Syngenta Group CEO Erik Fyrwald calls for wider science-based dialogue on transforming agriculture. In a recent interview with Switzerland’s NZZ am Sonntag, our CEO spoke about the need to transform farming to respond to the global food crisis and to make agriculture part of the solution to climate change. Much of the ensuing debate – including the headline on the article – has been about organic food and agriculture. Today, Fyrwald reiterates the need to draw on both conventional and organic agriculture to bring together a third, climate smart way – regenerative agriculture – that uses practices that regenerate soils, increase productivity and capture carbon in soils. Such practices include low or no tillage, use of cover crops and crop rotation and have proven effective in Syngenta Group’s work with farmers. In a Linked In post, Fyrwald writes: “The Head of the UN World Food Programme, David M. Beasley, recently said 283 million people are “marching towards starvation.” We must address this food crisis head on – with short-, medium- and long-term solutions. At the same time, we must build momentum fighting the worsening climate crisis.” A transformation towards regenerative agriculture would lead to more food grown on less land; reduced agricultural greenhouse gas emissions; increased biodiversity; and enhanced soil health. “While many farmers and companies across agriculture are embracing regenerative practices, we also need governments and media to do more to encourage widespread adoption,” writes Fyrwald. “Let’s continue to have an open dialogue, exchanging ideas and focusing on science-based solutions to overcome these huge challenges.” Read more on LinkedIn Teaser Syngenta Group CEO Erik Fyrwald calls for wider science-based dialogue on transforming agriculture.

Syngenta presents Interra® Scan: high-resolution soil mapping for better soil health

Teaser News Content Type Blog Publish date 7/13/2022 Summary Licensing agreement with HL Hutchinsons (HLH) signed to supply farmers with precision soil analysis service Interra® Scan offers one of the world’s highest resolution soil mapping services to optimize nutrition and carbon capture Major step towards regenerative agriculture, underlining Syngenta’s commitment to improve soil health Basel / Switzerland, July 27, 2022 – Syngenta has signed a licensing agreement with UK based HL Hutchinsons (HLH) to supply agronomists and farmers with an advanced soil mapping and sampling service initially in continental and Eastern Europe. It will be marketed under the name Interra® Scan and enables agronomists and growers to make better informed decisions for crop management and soil stewardship. Interra® Scan offers high-resolution soil mapping up to 27 layers of information, providing growers with precise information on soil health. “It allows growers to understand the texture, nutrient and carbon content of their soils in order to optimize nutrition and carbon capture”, explains Mark Hall, Head of Sustainable and Responsible Business EAME. “Interra® Scan takes over 800 data reference points per hectare, showing more details and geospatial differences than other mapping techniques such as drones, satellites, or grid sampling. Interra® Scan can be described as the equivalent of an all-round medical check-up for humans, but for soil.” This agreement is proof of Syngenta’s commitment to help growers create healthy soils which are the foundation of our food system. They also have a critical role to play as a natural carbon sink to help meet the Paris Climate Agreement. “Finally, soil health is plant health. This is why we are investing into innovative solutions like Interra® Scan. In the past, growers would treat the entire field in the same way. With Interra® Scan, they know exactly what to apply where and how much of it, making the most of precision technology”, says Alexandra Brand, Regional Director EAME. “As an additional benefit, growers can optimize input costs on fertilizers, seeds and lime which is even more important in the current economic situation. We can clearly say Interra® Scan is a win-win situation for farmers and the environment.” The in-field process of collecting data includes two steps: First, the soil is scanned with gamma-ray detection technology by SoilOptix® to map all of the common nutrient and physical soil properties and physical soil samples are collected. The raw scan, soil data and soil samples are then combined and processed to produce up to 27 high-definition soil property layers. Growers have easy on-the-go access via a digital platform to view the results in a unique soil properties map and develop variable rate application maps for their crop input applications. About HL Hutchinsons Hutchinsons is a leading agricultural and horticultural input advice and supply company, which advises clients representing over one million hectares throughout the UK. Founded in 1938, Hutchinsons remains a family business and now employs 500 team members nationwide, with more than half delivering a wide range of professional crop management advisory services to their clients. About SoilOptix® Operating commercially since 2017, SoilOptix® Inc., based in Ontario, Canada, produces the most detailed, high-definition soil mapping sensors that can accurately map over 25 different layers including macro and micro nutrients, physical properties, pH, organic matter, plant available water, and carbon. With a resolution of over 827 points per hectare and data that is easily implemented into variable rate applications, SoilOptix® gives growers a deeper understanding of the variability in nutrients and textural-based properties of their field's soil, which results in better optimization of input (fertilizer, seed, etc.) placement for economic and environmental gain.
