Full Professorship in Translational Pharmacology at the Institute of Pharmacology

as of February 01, 2024 or by agreement.

The Director / Ordinarius / Ordinaria for Pharmacology is an internationally renowned scientist with pharmacological background and translational focus.

Description

The candidate is able to close the circle between basic, translational and clinical science, yet the own area of expertise should be translational. A close collaboration with existing research platforms of the university of Bern (Department of Biomedical Research, Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine, ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research, Bern Centre for Precision Medicine, Center of Artificial Intelligence), the area of Pharmacy, the Department of Clinical Research as well as the University Hospital Bern (including the Insel Data Science Center, the Clinical Genomics Lab) is expected.

Teaching in medical studies and pharmacy is an important mission of pharmacology and the candidate should contribute significantly to this. A pronounced commitment with a corresponding teaching portfolio for the subject of pharmacology/pharmacy, interest in innovative, interdisciplinary and timely teaching concepts (including e.g. digital techniques) are expected. The candidate close collaborates with other lecturers in the areas of education and continuing education.

The candidate should have a strong commitment in academic career development (master thesis, dissertations, habilitations) and equality and diversity. The candidate knows the curriculum of candidates in human medicine and natural sciences in the areas of pharmacology and pharmacy. The candidate actively fosters the careers of their academic personnel.

Requirements

A medical degree, a PhD, MSc, or equivalent training in pharmacological methodology and a record of directing research teams are mandatory. Management and leadership qualities with administrative skills, as well as the ability to integrate into existing structures, are important elements.

Teamwork skills, collegiality, flexibility are desired personal traits in order to successfully merge and develop the diverse pharma realities. Collaborations with scientists, clinicians, and partners from industry are considered as positive challenges. Transparent communication, enthusiasm and an integrative personality are qualities that we are looking for. Long-term leadership experience are expected.

Applicants should have a strong, independent academic record of accomplishment in original research and extramural competitive research funding.
