An ERC-funded postdoctoral position in structural biology is available in the laboratory of Dr. Wojciech Galej at the EMBL Grenoble, France. We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join our team interested in the structure and function of RNA-protein complexes. Our group investigates various aspects of gene expression, including pre-mRNA splicing, snRNP biogenesis and transcription regulation by the Integrator complex. We use a multidisciplinary approach to tackle complex biological problems by combining cryo-EM/ET, computational modelling, and other biochemical and biophysical methods. The main focus of this position will be structural studies of the splicing machinery by cryo-EM/ET.

Description

Your role

  • Taking up and leading a challenging structural biology project
  • Designing and performing experimental procedures
  • Analysing and interpreting experimental data
  • Taking part in regular group meetings, unit seminars and international conferences
  • Staying up to date with the literature and the latest methodological developments relevant to the project

Requirements

  • PhD in molecular biology or a related field
  • Extensive experience in biochemistry and/or molecular/cell biology
  • Good knowledge of structural biology methods, in particular cryo-EM/ET
  • Independence and ability to solve problems

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team

We offer

Why join us

EMBL is curiosity-driven, community-oriented international research organisation. As an inclusive, equal opportunity employer , we believe that diversity enables us to collaborate more effectively and be innovative in our approaches. We are, therefore, committed to creating an inclusive and flexible culture - one where everyone can realise their full potential and make a positive contribution to our organisation.

EMBL Grenoble enables access to state-of-the-art structural biology technologies with the local EM facility equipped with the T12 screening microscope and a 200kV Glacios microscope with Falcon4i/SelectrisX detector. Additionally, we have a regular access to five 300kV microscopes located locally at ESRF and at EMBL Heidelberg. Other facilities include high-performance computing cluster, dedicated GPU workstations for data processing and deep learning applications, ESRF synchrotron X-ray beamlines, high-field NMR at the IBS as well as mammalian and insect cell facilities, biophysical platform, confocal microscopy and high-throughput crystallization facilities.

We encourage applications from individuals who can complement our existing team – we believe that success is built on having teams whose backgrounds and personal experiences reflect the diversity of the populations that our science serves. We actively encourage applications from all genders and cultures, ethnic groups and all demographics to help us avoid perpetuating biases and oversights at this transformational point in our people strategy.

EMBL offers attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation with a very collegial and family-friendly working environment. Competitive salary and social security benefits, financial support for relocation, a relaxed culture, professional development, canteen and other staff facilities make EMBL a great place to work.
