Senior Lecturer (“MER”) in the domain of Microbiology

INSTITUTE: The Departments of Plant Sciences, Biology Section and the Pharmaceutical Sciences Section, Faculty of Sciences, University of Geneva offer a stimulating collaborative scientific environment, internationally recognised for their research in the field of molecular plant sciences and in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and pharmaceutical practice. Description

Full-time appointment including supervision of research at the level of Bachelor and Master degrees in the field of microbiology.

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach Microbiology in the sections of Biology and Pharmaceutical sciences. Courses will include participation in: General Biology 2, General Microbiology I and II, Capsule 3 – Microbiology, as well as the associated practicals.

  • Supervise the work of interns, master students, MAS, and possibly doctoral students

  • Develop independent research in microbiology, in particular studying the mechanism of cross-resistance between heavy metals and antibiotics using the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa as model system

  • Write manuscripts for publication and apply for third-party funding

The Senior Lecturer will be embedded within the Department of Plant Sciences. We expect the successful candidate to integrate and to develop their research network within the Department and the Section of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Requirements

Hold a PhD. At least five years of experience in the field of microbiology with substantial experience and skills in teaching. Experience in research supervision at the bachelor and master. Publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
