A ’driving test’ for self-driving robots

- EN - IT

The development of self-driving vehicles is a strategic area moving forward, thanks partly to major investments. Road trials have also taken place in Switzerland, and the United States has already begun to provide self-driving cab services. It is therefore increasingly crucial that the "brains" of "auto-robots" know how to react appropriately in complex, if not extreme, situations.

In the column dedicated to technology in collaboration with La Regione, we hosted this month Paolo Tonella, Full Professor USI - Faculty of Informatics and the Software Institute - and Honorary Professor UCL, London, to find out about the research work that aims to ensure the robustness and reliability of software systems used in self-driving vehicles through advanced testing techniques before they are released to end users.

The column

Nowadays, technology and information technology play a primary role in everyone’s life. This constant presence of theirs offers opportunities and challenges that are not always easy. To help us better understand the often complex issues, the daily newspaper La Regione offers monthly insight in which USI faculty and researchers provide perspectives and insights into the varied dimensions that characterise the digital age.
