The governments of the two Basel cantons have elected Eva Herzog, member of the Council of States of Canton Basel-Stadt, as the new President of the Board of Governors of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH). Herzog will begin her new role on 1 January 2023.
The Board of Governors is the highest decision-making and supervisory body of Swiss TPH. The President is jointly elected by the governments of both Canton Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft.
At their meeting today, the two governments elected Eva Herzog, member of the Council of States of Canton Basel-Stadt, as President of the Board of Governors. She succeeds the current President, Andreas Burckhardt, who will step down at the end of 2022. Eva Herzog has already been a member of the Board of Governors since 2021 representing Canton Basel-Stadt.
The seat vacated by Eva Herzog’s election as President will be filled by Lutz Hegemann, President Global Health & Sustainability Novartis International AG. Eva Herzog and Lutz Hegemann will begin their new roles as of 1 January 2023. The term of office is linked to the performance mandate period of the two cantons and is valid until the end of 2024.
