Fisheries advisory service: new location in French-speaking Switzerland

The Swiss fisheries advisory office (FIBER) promotes sustainable fisheries and exchange between research, administration and practice through advice and training. In addition to the Kastanienbaum office in the canton of Lucerne, FIBER now also has a location in French-speaking Switzerland, which was officially opened on 1 October 2024.

For 20 years, the fisheries advisory service (FIBER), jointly run by the aquatic research institute Eawag and the Federal Office for the Environment (FoeN), has served as a link between research relevant to fisheries, as well as between the administration and fisheries. It uses its newsletter, brochures and events to provide information on new scientific findings and developments in administration. The focus is on protecting and enhancing aquatic habitats, the diversity of fish and the promotion of sustainable fisheries.

In order to strengthen its presence in French-speaking Switzerland, FIBER opened a new location at the Maison de la Rivière in Tolochenaz (canton of Vaud) in August, where biologist Amandine Bussard will work as a new scientific collaborator for FIBER. The Maison de la Rivière is a research institution of the University of Lausanne and the Geneva School of Landscape, Engineering and Architecture, as well as a public nature centre. On 1 October 2024, Andrin Krähenbühl, head of FIBER in Kastanienbaum, and Amandine Bussard officially opened the new location with an apéro reception together with representatives from the fisheries.
