Francesca Verunelli becomes new lecturer for theory, instrumentation and composition

Francesca Verunelli will join the Department of New Music, Composition and Theory in the spring semester of 2025. The internationally renowned composer brings with her an impressive career and diverse experience that will enrich the Lucerne School of Music.

Francesca Verunelli studied composition and piano at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence, where she received both diplomas with distinction. She then went on to study composition and computer music at IRCAM, specializing in electronic music. She received her doctorate from PSL University (Paris Sciences & Lettres).

In 2010, she was awarded the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale. She has also been a research composer at IRCAM and GMEM and an artist-in-residence at Casa de Velázquez and Villa Medici. Her work was recognized in 2020 with the Ernst von Siemens Composition Prize, and in 2022 she received the prestigious 41st Abbiati Prize of the Italian Critics.

Francesca Verunelli has received commissions from renowned musical institutions and ensembles such as IRCAM, the Venice Biennale, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Milano Musica, the Neue Vokalsolisten Stuttgart, the Accentus Kammerchor, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Court-Circuit, the Ensemble 2e2m, the International Contemporary Ensemble, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, GMEM Marseille, CIRM Nice, the French State, the FACE Foundation, the Donaueschinger Musiktage, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Klangforum Wien. Her music is regularly performed in Europe and the United States.
