Roche and Novartis will rise above the city of Basel

Roche presented development plans for its Basel site. Over the next 10 years, Roche will invest 3 billion Swiss francs in the development of its Basel site. Under the site development plan, developed in collaboration with architects Herzog & de Meuron, a large part of the Basel workforce will be brought together on the main site around Grenzacherstrasse.

According to the press release of Roche, the new office building in the interior of the site will be 205 m tall (the tallest building in Switzerland) and provide space for up to 1700 office workplaces. Completion of the 550 million Swiss francs building is planned for 2021.

The new research and development centre for around 1900 employees will comprise four integrated office/laboratory buildings of different heights (132m, 72m, 28m and 16m) on the site of present Building 74. Additionally, the infrastructure will become better and the historic building by Otto R. Salvisberg will be renovated.

Approval for taller buildings on Novartis’ «Campus of Knowledge»
Novartis will be constructing taller buildings too: The Grosse Rat of Basel approved the second part of a development plan for multi-story buildings. This makes it possible for Novartis to construct buildings that are up to 120 meters high on its «Campus of Knowledge». Completion of the Campus is planned for 2020 and will provide around 13’200 workplaces.
