USI stands in solidarity with the victims of the war in Ukraine and particularly supports students, researchers and staff members touched by the consequences of the conflict. Here is an overview of the measures put in place, mainly thanks to the coordination of the International Relations Service.
Solidarity scholarships for students
USI has decided to provide solidarity scholarships for those who find it difficult to continue their studies at USI because of this war. //www.usi.ch/it/formazione/bachelor/tasse-e-borse-di-studio
In collaboration with the Swiss SAR Section, the Swiss National Science Foundation has mobilised a fund of CHF 1 million to support researchers from Ukraine who will be hosted by Swiss institutions. USI International Relations and Mobility Service offers administrative assistance and support to USI academics interested in hosting candidates in their field. To date, procedures are underway to host at USI four researchers of Ukrainian and Russian origin, all of whom are affected by the consequences of the current conflict. //www.usi.ch/it/universita/info/relint/relazioni-internazionali/altre-iniziative (section Scholars at Risk SAR Network: Ukraine).
Ukrainian researchers who have an ongoing project funded by the SNSF (or who are working on a funded project as collaborators) can apply to extend deadlines and funding periods (for more information https://www.usi.ch/it/feeds/18347 ).
The Euraxess Switzerland portal has also been created for Ukrainian researchers, providing them with an overview of all existing projects at national and European level: https://www.euraxess.ch/ukraine
#ScienceForUkraine collects and disseminates information about support opportunities at the university, national, and international level for graduate students and researchers directly affiliated to an academic institution in Ukraine.
USI programme for the inclusion of refugees
The programme run in collaboration with swissuniversities, Perspectives-studies and SOS Ticino Servizio In-Lav, provides assistance and integration, access to Italian and/or English language courses and discounts on semester fees. https://www.usi.ch/en/university/info/relint/international-relations/other-activities (section Access to USI and equal opportunities for refugee students)

Fundraising appeal for those fleeing the war
USI has joined forces with the Swiss Foundation for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ("Switzerland for UNHCR") in launching an emergency fundraising in support of the millions of people fleeing their homes in search of safety. https://donate.unrefugees.ch/ch/en-ch/Ukraine-USI
