Swiss TPH welcomes new students for the start of the semester

As the autumn semester begins, Swiss TPH warmly welcomes the new students enrolled in our bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programmes. 58 new master’s and PhD students from various countries have officially started their academic journey with us today. We also like to warmly welcome everyone joining our postgraduate courses.

Bachelor and Master of Science programmes:

This semester, 40 master students from 20 countries are beginning their MSc studies in Infection Biology and Epidemiology. The MSc in Infection Biology studies the interactions between hosts and pathogens, focusing on infectious diseases that affect low-income populations. By exploring these facets, the programme lays the groundwork for the development of new treatments, vaccines, and diagnostic methods to combat these diseases.

Meanwhile, the MSc in Epidemiology equips students with solid foundations in epidemiological theories and biostatistics. The programme features hands-on research opportunities that frequently involve fieldwork at Swiss TPH.

"The students of the MSc Epidemiology are as diverse as the population," said Martin Röösli, Head of the Environmental Exposure and Health unit who is the co-director of the MSc programme Epidemiology. "I look forward to the resulting exciting and inspiring discussions."

In addition to its master’s programmes, Swiss TPH also provides courses for the Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Basel, including a 6-week block course on Infection Biology and Epidemiology. The bachelor’s and master’s programmes are offered in association with the University of Basel.

Doctorate and PhD programmes

Swiss TPH is also welcoming 28 new PhD students from 18 different countries to the start of their research-based academic journeys. These students will conduct their studies across a variety of fields, ranging from medical parasitology and infection biology to epidemiology, public health, and medical anthropology.

"As a medical doctor, I decided to do a PhD in Epidemiology because I want to gain a broader perspective on health issues. My goal is to make impactful changes in my country, particularly in the healthcare sector. I aspire to improve people’s lives and contribute to creating a better world," said Somaphone Chankongsin from Laos.

Postgraduate courses

At the postgraduate level , we are pleased to introduce the latest participants in the International Cooperation and Global Health course (in German: Internationale Zusammenarbeit und Globale Gesundheit, IZGG). These participants bring with them a diversity of professional experiences and academic backgrounds, enriching the learning environment.
