University of Basel under Top 100 universities of the world

According to the «Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-2015», the University of Basel is the third-best university in Switzerland (rank 75) out of 400 universities worldwide in the ranking.

The ranks of all Swiss universities in the list are: 13 – ETH Zürich (14th in 2013) 34 – École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (37th) 75 – Universität Basel (74th) 103 – University of Zürich (121st) 107 – University of Geneva (124th) 132 – University of Bern (157th) 136 – Université de Lausanne (132nd)

The global university performance tables by Thomson Reuters judge world class universities across their core missions: - Teaching: the learning environment (worth 30% of the overall ranking score) - Research: volume, income and reputation (worth 30%) - Citations: research influence (worth 30%) - Industry income: innovation (worth 2.5%) - International outlook: staff, students and research (worth 7.5%)

According to the release, universities are excluded from the «Times Higher Education World University Rankings» if they don’t teach undergraduates; if they teach only a single narrow subject; or if their research output amounted to fewer than 1’000 articles between 2009 and 2013 (200 a year).
