In the rankings by discipline of the best universities by Times Higher Education (THE), USI ranks third in Switzerland for informatics, tied with the University of Zurich and behind the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. This significant accomplishment is confirmed by the growing number of students in the Faculty of Informatics, up from three hundred in 2016 to about six hundred this year.

In the Times Higher Education global rankings, USI had advanced from the 301’350 range to the 201’250 range out of 1,799 universities reviewed.

The Times Higher Education is among the most renowned and globally recognised academic rankings. The rankings are compiled based on the analysis of numerous data. From these, indicators are developed, such as bibliometric data (citations and references in scientific publications), the impact of the research carried out by universities, the quality of teaching and international perspective. Results may vary among rankings because different indicators are used and weighted differently in calculating rankings.
