The Cardiovascular Retreat , co-organised by the Doctoral School in Biomedicine at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and several other Swiss universities, aimed to promote exchange and collaboration in cardiovascular research among doctoral students across Switzerland.
This encounter took place at Monte Verità in Ascona on November 29-30, 2024. It was the second Swiss PhD Students’ Cardiovascular Retreat, following the first event that was also held in Ascona. This initiative aims to bring together young researchers working on various projects in cardiovascular research to promote collaboration and exchange of ideas. This year, participants included doctoral students from USI and attendees from the University of Lausanne, the University of Bern, the University of Zurich, and the USZ CTEC. During three sessions, they gave Flash Presentations (5 minutes of oral presentation followed by 2 minutes of collective discussion), followed by a Keynote Lecture given by Professor Manuel Mayr , two Poster Sessions and networking activities. The retreat was attended by three USI PhD students ( Antonio Landi , Giorgia Senesi and Azucena Rendon-Angel ) and two students who are currently visiting our university ( Laura Guerricchio and Antonella Paradiso). Azucena Rendon-Angel won one of the prizes for the best oral presentation during the Flash Presentations.
The coordinator of the programme in cardiovascular sciences for the USI doctoral school, Professor Lucio Barile , hopes to bring together all doctoral students in the cardiovascular field from all’over Switzerland in the coming years.
The event was funded by FUJIFILM VisualSonics B.V., Novogene, Olink (Part of Thermo Fischer Scientific) and the University of Bern.
