Luciana Vaccaro becomes the new president of swissuniversities
On October 20, 2022, the plenary assembly of swissuniversities, the Conference of Rectors of Swiss Universities, elected Luciana Vaccaro as its new president. She succeeds Yves Flückiger, Rector of the University of Geneva. In this position, which she will hold from February 2023 to July 2024, the Rector of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland will represent the interests of Swiss universities at the national and international levels. Luciana Vaccaro has identified four priority areas for action in her mandate. Firstly, it is essential to continue efforts to enable Switzerland to participate in European research and education programs. In view of the next FRI message, the second priority must be to maintain sufficient federal funding for all types of universities. The third priority is to ensure that the interdisciplinary knowledge and scientific expertise of the universities can be made available in a fast, efficient and coordinated way to meet the challenges of our time.
